The Sonia Daly Belcher Annual Scholarship
This Scholarship is an annual academic scholarship awarded to young Orthodox Christian women and men of outstanding character who are currently enrolled in any accredited institution of higher learning including universities, colleges, community colleges, and/or vocational schools and who desire to serve the Church and others with joy and authenticity as they prepare for the next steps on their vocational paths. The Sonia Daly Belcher Scholarship Fund will give at least one scholarship of $1,000 or more to applicants who best meet the qualifications for the award.

Eligibility Requirements:
  1. Be a communicant member of a Canonical Eastern Orthodox Christian Church.
  2. Be, at minimum, a sophomore in the fall semester (of the year that you are applying) at a college, university, or vocational school.
  3. Be a resident of New England (​Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island or Vermont) or attending college in New England.
The deadline to apply is August 31, and recipients will be announced on the feast of St. Sophia, September 17.

2024 Scholarship Recipients

During her life, Sonia was committed to raising up Orthodox Christian leaders to serve Christ’s church. We remember her legacy and we honor two young servant-hearted leaders who remind us of Sonia’s deep love for God, her passion for serving others, and her courage and fortitude.
The Sonia Daly Belcher Fund scholarship honors Sonia’s memory and her impact. Thanks to the generous support of our donors, we are awarding two scholarships. We wish to warmly congratulate Yvette Easton, an undergraduate student of Government and Modern Middle East Studies and NCAA Division 1 volleyball player at Harvard with a scholarship of $2,000. Yvette spent her summer studying abroad in Jordan working to increase female political participation and hopes to continue on to law school after Harvard in order to help families in the war-torn Middle East find safer and better lives.
We are also honored to award a scholarship of $1,250 to Courtney Haubert, a graduate student working towards her Masters of Theological Studies at Harvard Divinity School. Courtney remarked, “With the spirit of love, all things can be made holy- even, and perhaps especially, scholarship.” She hopes to continue her academic studies and obtain her PhD in order to serve the Church.
We are certain these future servant-leaders will serve the Church with continued love and dedication, working dutifully in our Lord’s vineyard for years to come. May God grant them many, many years!
